The Bay Area Climbers Coalition (BACC) unites climbers, land managers, local businesses, nonprofits, and outdoor brands to protect and preserve the climbing areas of the San Francisco Bay Area. Through partnerships with parks, gyms, and advocacy groups like the Access Fund and the American Alpine Club, BACC leads volunteer cleanups, trail restoration projects, and community education events across the region.
Beyond stewardship, BACC is dedicated to making climbing accessible for everyone. The organization recognizes and works to dismantle barriers such as classism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, and xenophobia that limit equitable access to outdoor spaces.
Since forming in 2013 (and becoming a nonprofit in 2014), BACC volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of trash, erased graffiti from beloved crags, and improved access to climbing sites across the Bay. As the official Access Fund partner in the region, the Coalition serves as the key connection between land managers and the local climbing community—ensuring the Bay Area’s cliffs and crags remain clean, open, and welcoming for all.
